Oops
Today started well but turned out to be a bit of a mess.
Yesterday I was given a slightly modified treatment schedule and told one appoint had been rearranged. I’d read the schedule but somehow missed that it was today’s appointment, now at 10:30 and not 10:00 as originally planned.
So, there I was arriving just before 10:00 with an almost-full bladder and expecting to be into the treatment room in a few minutes, as usual. I was asked to wait, which is fairly normal, but as the clock ticked round to 10:15 I asked the receptionist if everything was running OK. Then they told me that the appointment was 10:30 but that I could go through to the second waiting room right away. Even at that point I wasn’t feeling any more full than on the couple of “high water marks” during earlier treatments.
However, after I had changed it was obvious I couldn’t hold on even though I knew the treatment would be starting in a few minutes.
So I went.
That meant I need to fill up again so I had a couple of cups of water. In the meantime one of the radiographers came to check on me and ask if I was OK. I explained my mistake and they said not to worry and that I would probably be ready in five minutes.
While I was waiting, the next patient came into the waiting room and we started to chat. This was his first week and during our bref conversation he said he’d been finding the water a bit of a problem too. When the radiogrpaher returned I suggested it might be best if he went beofre me, which seemed like a good solution all round.
By the time he had finished, I was good to go so I was ushered into the treatment room right away. My treatment was finished just on 11:00 which meant the next patient didn’t have to wait and everything was back on schedule.
It just goes to show that one simple misread of a number can have consequences. Always read the small print!
I was due to collect my wife from the railway station after my treatment and I had expected her to have been waiting for me. But as it turned out she had also been held up so it was me that had to wait. No harm done and after a bit of shopping for tonight’s dinner we were soon back home.
