Traffic Problems

I needed to see my accountant this week to discuss some changes to the business. I’d suggested mid to late morning any day but he couldn’t do that, so we agreed I’d come into his office at 08:30. It’s on the way to the treatment centre so not really an issue, except for the early start. Generally, I try to avoid driving into MK first thing in the morning because I know from the few times I have done it recently that the traffic is bad. It turned out to be worse than I expected.

On a normal day it’s a 20 minute drive to the accountant’s office so I’d left at 07:45 to be on the safe side. I decided to take a slightly different route because, although I expected traffic, it gave me more options for alternatives in the event of delays. As soon as I reach the main road – about four miles from home – it was obvious that I would need the whole 45 minutes. Both the A5 and A508 meet at a big roundabout at the northern end of MK and it’s a major bottleneck. The roundabout is the only way into MK from the northern end and it’s always amazed me that after it was built in in the early 1980s nobody has thought to add another access road.

From what I could make out the tailbacks on both roads at 08:00 were around four or five miles. I turned off and went into MK using the back roads and some narrow lanes that (at least so I thought) fewer people knew about. These too were quite busy but nowhere as bad as the main roads. Anyway, I turned into the car park next to the accountant’s offices just on 08:30 so wasn’t late for the meeting.

My treatment was scheduled for 10:15 today so after meeting the accountant I had just enough time to pop into a supermarket. Living where I do, and not wanting to make unnecessary journeys, I try to do shopping when I am out for other reasons.

This was the first day that I wasn’t able to prepare for the treatment with the usual schedule. Nevertheless, drinking some water during the meeting and then a couple of small bottles afterwards did the trick although I probably wasn’t quite as full as the previous days. I think this shows the value of having a regular treatment slot and getting into a routine to prepare.

Day Eight

Tiredness: 1/10 – I think waking up early again, the early start and the general rushing around during the morning took its toll.

Side Effects: similar to yesterday but nothing too serious.
