Round Trips
It’s 17 miles to the facility from my house and for the time being I am driving myself to the daily treatments. This is all part of my plan to normalise the treatment as far as possible.
I leave 45 minutes for the journey. I live in a rural setting between Northampton and Milton Keynes and the journey should take about 30 minutes when there are no hold-ups. If there are, I know all the different ways of getting into Milton Keynes to avoid them. The additional 15 minutes should be more than enough for most potential problems.
This morning was one such day. There had been a bad accident on the A508 near one of the villages on the route. I don’t know the details but the road was closed in both directions and we were diverted by the police down to a neighbouring village to pick up the A5. As it was mid-morning there wasn’t very much traffic so the delay was only about five minutes or so.
In any event, I arrived in good time for my appointment. However, today was also the first day when I had a slight problem with achieving a full bladder. I have been keeping well hydrated and this means that if I have a pee about an hour before the appointment time and then drink about a pint of water, I should be ready at the right time. I also take a small bottle of water and drink it on the way. Today I must have overdone it slightly because I was feeling rather full before I arrived at the facility.
There was also a small delay of five minutes or so for my treatment. That doesn’t sound like much but as I already had a full bladder, which was still filling from the water I’d drunk in the previous hour, it was pretty uncomfortable for a few minutes. One thing I did find, though, was that once I was in the treatment room I knew that I would only have to hold on for another seven or eight minutes. Somehow, that seemed to relax me and the urge to pee seemed to lessen. In the end it wasn’t a problem although it was quite a relief to get to the loo next to the changing rooms as soon as possible.
