The Fifth Week
It’s hard to believe I have been doing this for a month now. The time has gone faster than I expected and the treatment itself smoother than I had anticipated.
I’ve even managed to keep up a modicum of work during the afternoons, although mornings have been largely consumed with the trips to the centre for the treatment. By the time I’ve got ready, driven down, had the treatment and driven back it’s usually after 11:00. If I need to call in anywhere then that takes up even more time. That leaves a short while to check emails and plan the day ahead before lunch, leaving afternoons free for working on projects for the clients.
This weekend had promised to be a challenge. After my treatment on Friday I headed off for London to catch the Eurostar to Paris for a long-awaited weekend away to enjoy one of the annual events my wife and I usually attend. I’d booked the trip before my treatment started in full knowledge that I would be midway through when I needed to travel. At the time, I expected the potential side effects of tiredness and diarreah would make the journey difficult, expecially with long periods in departure lounges and on trains. But as these haven’t really caused me any problems so far the journeys passed off without incident.
The weekend in Paris was a slightly different matter. During our first visit to the event on Friday evening, my wife decided to try some oysters at one of the many stalls selling them. Within a couple of hours she was doubled up with food poisoning that put her out of action for the rest of the eventing, all day Saturday and most of Sunday. We did manage to get back to the event on the Sunday evening but we’d missed most of the things we’d been looking forward to.
There’s always next year.
Back in the UK, the final challenge was to manage the water intake to be ready for the treatment – today at 2pm rather than the usual 10ish – while travelling. I managed to arrive at the facility well beforehand and that allowed me to time everything reasonably well.
