Twentysomething

I broke with the established routine today: a taxi took me to the treatment centre because I am going away for the weekend. Afterwards they dropped me off at the local station so I could catch a train to London.

Maybe it was the different timings involved, or maybe just bad planning, but I underdid the water this morning. I thought I had drunk the right amount before leaving home and I got through two small bottles on the way but when I arrived I could tell I wasn’t quite ready. As it happened, today’s treatments were running a bit ahead of schedule so I was ushered into the second waiting room at about 10 to 10. You’d think that after 20 treatments I would be better at getting the time right.

The radiographers did an ultrasound on my bladder and this showed it still needed another 200 millilitres to be full enough for the treatment to go ahead. That sounds like a lot but I had by then drunk quite a lot of water and the kidneys can process it fairly quickly. I went back into the waiting room and after about 10 minutes I was called through to the treatment room again. By then my bladder was just about right so they went ahead with the treatment.

After all of that I was actually out of the treatment room just before 10:15 when the next patient was due. That meant I hadn’t held them up or caused any disruption to their day so all was well.

I was at the station by 10:30 and in London by 11:30 which meant I had a couple of hours to kill before taking the Eurostar to Paris. That time passed quickly with a bit of shopping and reading in the departure lounge and I was soon whizzing my way to France.

See you on Monday.
